What is an Affiliate Programme?

An affiliate programme is a formal partnership between a website (in this case, StaycationKE) and a booking or retail platform (in this case, Expedia). When a visitor to StaycationKE clicks an affiliate link and goes on to make a qualifying booking on Expedia's platform, Expedia pays StaycationKE a commission.

This is a standard and widely used model in the travel industry. It allows platforms like ours to offer free, high-quality travel information and curation to users while generating the revenue needed to operate.

Our Expedia Partnership

StaycationKE is a participant in the Expedia affiliate programme through Expedia's Travel Shop (Shops by Expedia). This means:

When you click "Book on Expedia" on any property listing on our Site, you are directed to Expedia's platform via our affiliate link

If you complete a qualifying booking, Expedia pays us a commission that is a percentage of the booking value

The commission is paid by Expedia from their own revenue — it is not an additional charge to you

Does using your affiliate links cost me more?No. The price you pay on Expedia is exactly the same whether you navigate directly to Expedia or arrive via our affiliate link. In fact, Expedia's pricing is standardised across all booking channels. Using our link never adds any cost to your booking.Do you feature properties because they pay you a commission?No. Every property on StaycationKE is selected based on our assessment of quality, guest experience and relevance to our audience. The commission structure through Expedia is uniform — it does not vary by property — so there is no financial incentive for us to favour one property over another. Properties are curated purely on merit.Do you receive payments from individual hotels or property owners?No. We do not accept payments from individual properties or operators in exchange for featuring them on our platform, writing favourable reviews, or placing them prominently in search results. Our only commercial relationship is with Expedia as our affiliate partner.What happens after I click your Expedia link?You are taken directly to Expedia's platform, where you complete your booking. From that point, your booking is governed entirely by Expedia's terms, payment processing and customer service. StaycationKE is not involved in the booking transaction and does not have access to your payment information.How do you decide what properties to list?We research and select properties based on guest reviews, property quality, location appeal and overall value. We focus exclusively on Kenya and Zanzibar, and within those destinations we aim to represent a range of accommodation types and price points. A property being listed on Expedia is a prerequisite but not the sole criterion for inclusion on StaycationKE.Are you required to disclose your affiliate relationships?Yes. Many jurisdictions, including guidelines issued by regulators in Kenya and internationally (such as the US FTC guidelines), require affiliate marketers to clearly disclose their commercial relationships. We are committed to full compliance with applicable disclosure requirements and believe transparency is simply the right thing to do regardless of legal obligation.

Affiliate revenue is what allows StaycationKE to operate, improve and expand. Without it, we could not maintain our platform, research new properties or create the content that helps travellers discover Kenya and Zanzibar.

At the same time, we recognise that our value to you depends entirely on your trust in our recommendations. The moment our curation becomes influenced by commercial interests rather than genuine quality, we lose that trust — and with it, our reason to exist.

We will update or remove listings if we receive credible evidence of poor guest experiences
